Advanced Level Competition (C.A.P.)
C.A.P. Philosophy
It is our belief that the vast majority of a gymnasts experiences should be positive, enjoyable and intrinsically rewarding. We believe this should remain true at all levels, especially the extremely challenging advanced levels. Advanced gymnastics skills typically require a large amount of training time to acquire and consolidate high level gymnastics skills. It is often typical that preparation for competitions can make this skill development more challenging, by virtue of the time required to prepare for competition. For many athletes at an advanced, level fewer competitions and more training opportunities and judges’ evaluation of skills and skill sequences can be more useful than a typical eight to ten month competition season alone. Therefore, early season AGL competitions are encouraged to include an advanced level session in which advanced level gymnasts can perform sections of routines or individual skills that they are ready to perform but are not necessarily confident with in a complete routine or competition format. Judges may give scores on execution only (based on 10.0) or simply observe training and provide feedback to coaches. This component of the AGL Advanced level is designed to consolidate on a consistent basis, the efforts of the coaching community and the judging community in their common goal of helping the athletes to reach their goals CAP Levels 2 & 3 are designed to closely adhere to the FIG international competition rules. Training and competing at these levels will prepare upper level gymnasts for any gymnastics opportunities which may lie in their future, be it college, International or AGL Professional levels.
