Beginner Level Competitions (SMART START)

SMART START Level Rules & Code of Conduct

SMART START General Rules

General

  • ** Any and All gymnastics clubs participating in AGL sanctioned events, must comply fully with the Child abuse prevention requirements and laws of the State which their gym operates in. ***
  1. The SMART START Level contains three sub levels. They are SMART START level 1 (SMART START), SMART START level 2 (STRONG START) and SMART START level 3 (SUPER START)

  2. SMART START level competitors have four choices for all around recognition. They are, SMART START all around, STRONG START all around, SUPER START all around and SMART START Mixed levels all around.

  3. Gymnasts who compete in the SMART START mixed level may do any of the three sub levels on each event IE; Vault STRONG START, bars SMART START, Beam and Floor SUPER START. Their individual event placement will coincide with the level of each event they perform in, but their all around category is the separate mixed level category.

  4. In addition to performing in SMART START events, gymnasts may perform in two additional events in the FLIP level (intermediate). This allows gymnasts to transition to the next level one or two events at a time

  5. Boys all around and team scores are based upon the best four out of the six events. This is to allow clubs that do not have all the boys’ events available in their facilities to compete.

  6. This code is purposely very simple (one page per event). AGL beginner levels are very basic. The focus should be on encouraging these athletes.

  7. By including and assigning value to introductory elements that are not present in other codes, this code intends to create greater variety in the AGL beginner levels.

  8. In Smart Start Levels, the deduction for being spotted through skills is .05-.2 at the judges discretion. With the exception of vault, The judge may also decide not to give credit for the skill performed if it is determined by the judge that the assistance rendered completely facilitated the skill.
  9. competitive attire at the SMART START Levels may be traditional or relaxed. male competitors may compete in the traditional competition team attire or shorts and tee shirt. Likewise girls may compete in traditional team attire or a leo with spandex biker shorts. only one stud earing in each ear lobe allowed. This code applies to AGL SMART START levels only. AGL, FLIP (intermediate) and CAT (advanced) levels use modified FIG rules. The primary developmental objective of the AGL SMART START levels is to promote the best form and body alignment possible with the simplest of introductory level skills. Judging should reflect this philosophy There are no special requirements in the AGL SMART START levels
