Equipment Specifications
At all levels, AGL meets allow additional matting as the coach and athlete see fit. This general rule is unequivocally implemented in order to achieve the highest level of safety possible. At all levels, the equipment may be set to best facilitate the exercise and the safety of the athlete, provided the setting is within the safe parameters of the equipment manufacturer. Gymnasts may mount off additional matting if they choose. Professional level At the professional level, the vault, uneven bars, rings, parallel bars and high bar is raised eight to eighteen inches so that eighteen inch thick resi mats or 8”-12” air cushioning system can be placed under standard twelve centimeter landing mats. One corner of the floor diagonal is squared off with two additional triangular spring floor panels and a twenty centimeter by eight foot by twelve foot landing mat is added to the squared off diagonal end. The Velcro mat flap is affixed to the floor carpet and a three or four inch thick throw mat is added to cover the seam. The total length of this diagonal now becomes sixty eight and a half feet in length. This additional length and matting is designed to give the athletes added safety. All of the additional matting is in bounds. For Vaulting, an alternative springboard apparatus may be used, provided the apparatus is manufacturedby a gymnastics equipment company. The apparatus should resemble the shape of a traditional vaulting board, with a maximum of 15 inches at the high end and a maximum of 4 inches at the low end. The surface producing the “spring” may be other than the traditional coil springs, such as a small trampoline bed. This vaulting board variation may not be used for any Yurchenko style vaults (round off or front handspring prior to board contact). With the exception of the above items, FIG specifications for equipment apply. Developmental level At Regional and National competitions, the professional level equipment is available. Therefore, developmental competitors may also use this setup for their competitions as well. When developmental meets are conducted in or by local gymnastics centers, the facility must at minimum meet current USAG equipment standards for JO competitions. In exceeding those basic requirements, resi type landing surfaces are allowed and encouraged. If professional level equipment is available, it may be used. If the floor area has a floor level (top) resi mat situated so that it can be safely tumbled onto from the floor area, it may be used and is considered in bounds. For the beginner levels of competition, current USAG JO equipment and mat standards apply. additionally a minimum 5’x 10’ x 24’ – 32”mat stack must be available for vault. Uneven bars should be set to the widest possible setting with the low bar to be used for levels 1& 2 and the high bar set with a strap bar set into the upper uprights for level 3. A spotting block must be available for getting into the straps. A separate single strap bar set up is also permitted and is recommended for boy’s if available.
