Intermediate Level Competition Flip Levels
F.L.I.P. Philosophy
The conceptual basis of training and competition in the AGL FLIP levels is that this phase should help the athlete efficiently develop the fundamental gymnastics elements which are the foundation of more advanced gymnastics primarily in a low impact, low stress environment. The Acronym F.L.I.P stands for F.I.G. Based Low Impact Program The acronym F.I.G. stands for Federation of international Gymnastics FIG is responsible for setting the gymnastics rules for international competitions Copyright American Gymnastics Leagues © 2012. FLIP Level Competition Rules
Fig Based Low Impact Program
- ** Any and All gymnastics clubs participating in AGL sanctioned events, must comply fully with the Child abuse prevention requirements and laws of the State which their gym operates in. *** Women’s Competition Rules All rules are FIG based. There is an execution part that always starts from 10.0. There is a difficulty part that is based upon the skills performed and the number of compositional requirements that are fulfilled. After the two parts are calculated, they are added together for the final score. The final score is what is sent to the audience and flashed to the audience. All individuals participating in AGL competitions and events must be members in good standing of American Gymnastics Leagues. Awards Age groups for AGL developmental meets are determined when all meet entries have been collected for a given competition. Once all entries have been received, the meet director will evenly divide each level into the number of categories which creates a reasonable number of athletes per division, by birth date. This ensures that each meet has a relatively even number of athletes in each category in each meet. This method also allows the meet director to make an accurate assessment of the number of awards that need to be ordered. With this method, a gymnast’s age division may change from meet to meet, but a fair distribution of competitors is always ensured. At least fifty percent of competitors on each event must receive a placement award at all AGL competitions below the professional level In cases where extremely young competitors are in a situation that would appear unfair, common sense should prevail and an extra age division should be installed. Team awards are the top three scores on each event, in each level regardless of age for girls. For boys levels team score and all around score is the top three scores in the top four events in each level regardless of age. This allows teams that may be lacking in men’s equipment to compete with only four events. Mobility Coaches may enter their athletes in any level that they believe their athlete has demonstrated an ability to perform in safely. They may move their gymnast up or down levels as they see fit. However, once an athlete has scored a 12.5 or higher event score or a 50.0 all around score or higher (stay up score), they may not move down from the event level or all around level in which the score was achieved. If there are ever special circumstances, coaches may petition the AGL to move back a level or more. Hosting a competition Individual gymnastics centers may apply for an AGL sanction and host gymnastics competitions at the local and league championship levels. There are three levels of meet sanctioning. The Red level sanction is for meets that are restricted to the SMART START level and as such are only required to have the equipment necessary to safely conduct a SMART START level competition. The White level sanction is for meets that will have all of the amateur levels in a facility that has all of the standard meet equipment including 12 or 20 cm landing mats, throw mats, spring floor etc. but does not have all of the AGL professional level setups available.( IE resi mats under bars, vault High bar etc.). The Blue Level sanction is for competitions that are conducted in a facility that has all of the AGL professional level equipment specifications available for all levels. Competition Attire gymnasts should compete in traditional gymnastics team attire at this level. However, girls are allowed to wear spandex biker shorts as in the SMART START levels. Warm ups In all AGL competitions gymnasts must be allotted ample warm up time and opportunity. This includes a 20-30 minute open run and stretch, 45 seconds per gymnast per event for SMART START level gymnasts, one minute per gymnast per event for FLIP level gymnasts and 1 minute 30 seconds per gymnast per event for advanced level gymnasts. There are many competition formats that are proven to accomplish this. The meet director may choose the format that they prefer and note on the sanction application which format they will be using. AGL competitions are held with one judge per event. Regional, National and Professional meets are one Judge per event plus one meet referee. Score inquiries are reviewed by the meet referee via video. The score may go up or down or remain the same. Judges fees and meet hosting expenses The AGL competition hosting structure is designed to make the cost of running a competition as predictable as possible for the host club. Judges are paid a very generous fee of three dollars per judgment for girls and two dollars per judgement for boys, plus direct travel costs (gas and tolls)with a minimum payment of one hundred dollars per session. AGL meets are always one judge per event. This allows the meet host to comfortably allot fifteen dollars per gymnast for judges’ fees. Awards are distributed to half of the competitors per event, per age group. AGL recommends that meet directors allocate twelve dollars per gymnast for individual event and all around awards for girls and eighteen dollars per gymnast for individual event and all around awards for boys. AGL strongly recommends that league competitions which are held in local gyms limit their meet fees to forty five dollars or less per gymnast for girls and fifty five dollars or less for boys.
